Respect...

Respect…or Manners…

Where has the respect gone? I do not believe that I am the only one who feels this way. I know that other people feel this way. Today I was talking with a teacher, she deals with the “naughty kids” or as she put it, “they just made some bad choices”. As I was talking with her, I realized that she felt the same way that I do. I believe that kids and young adults are not taught the respect and manners as we once were. People do not care about people anymore. Where has all the love gone?

When you were younger were you taught to respect your elders? Because you should have been! I was raised in a household where you always respected someone who was older than you, no matter what. My father was the law and I learned from him the respect that I have for people today. We were taught to hold the door open for people, anyone and everyone. We were taught to always let your elders sit in the front of a vehicle, simple things like that, and most important, always do what you’re told.

In my generation, respect and chivalry is disappearing. Not many young adults, my age, do any of those things. Most people think that chivalry is being a gentleman on a date, doing the things a man should do, like hold open the door to the restaurant and opening the door of the car. Those are great things to do but, you should be doing those things all the time, for everyone. When I don’t see someone behind me and let the door close in their face, I feel so bad and have to go open the door again and apologize. Am I the only one who does this? Are parents really not teaching this to their children? Everyone grows old, do you want the door slammed into your face when you do? Just because some young punk didn’t hold the door?! Not me.

I want my child and my future children to have the same respect instilled into them as I did. I will have that respect for people until the day that I leave this earth. I am hoping that my children will do the same.

To love is to respect. If you love someone, you give them the respect that they deserve.

God only loves,
Mina

  1. I really want to be able to teach my girls to respect others and themselves. I want to teach and show them there is a way you can move through the world where you can leave people smiling. I want to teach them to see other people. Also to make good choices for their lives because they see the worth in themselves and know that they deserve the best!
